United Way of the Ocoee Region is celebrating another year of transformative community impact through its AmeriCorps VISTA program, an initiative of AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. By placing dedicated VISTA members with local nonprofit organizations, United Way helps strengthen nonprofit capacity, expand critical services, mobilize community resources, and create sustainable solutions that address the root causes of poverty for individuals and families across the Ocoee Region.
During the 2025-2026 program year, AmeriCorps VISTA members recruited and managed 3,484 volunteers who contributed more than 16,700 hours of service. Together, members helped leverage more than $402,000 in cash resources and nearly $44,000 in in-kind support, strengthening nonprofit organizations throughout the Ocoee Region.
Serving at nonprofit organizations across the region, VISTA members expanded fundraising efforts, developed volunteer programs, secured grants, improved organizational systems, and created sustainable resources that will continue benefiting local agencies long after their service ends. Their work supported initiatives in affordable housing, education, workforce development, food security, and family stability.
"This year demonstrates the lasting impact of capacity-building," said Stephanie Linkous, United Way of the Ocoee Region President and CEO.
"By investing in local nonprofits, our VISTA members help create stronger organizations that can serve more people and build more stable communities for years to come."
Highlights from the year include expanding affordable housing initiatives, increasing volunteer engagement, strengthening community partnerships, improving organizational infrastructure, and helping nonprofit partners secure new funding opportunities. Several VISTA members also advanced into leadership roles within the nonprofit sector, continuing their commitment to serving the region.
United Way of the Ocoee Region is proud to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA regional program administrator, partnering with AmeriCorps and local nonprofit organizations to strengthen communities from the inside out. Together, these partnerships build sustainable nonprofit capacity, mobilize volunteers and resources, and create lasting solutions that help individuals and families thrive across the Ocoee Region and beyond.
